Fiacre's Feast will rest upon the foundation of a strong Christian tradition that begun in the very early centuries of the development of the church. This was a Christian tradition that saw an emergence of many religious communities who were very much in touch with creation. For these men and women, the whole earth reflected the glory of God. All things animate and inanimate, were to be treated with care and respect. Thus many monks and nuns devoted their lives to the production of beautiful works of art, literature, music, embroidery, furniture and architecture. They lived off the land and were able to produce many beautiful and useful products from what they had grown themselves... bread, cheese, honey, olives, wine, medicines, candles, weaving etc... Nothing was wasted and everything was shared in their local communities and the poor and the stranger were cared for as if they were Jesus Christ.
